unemployment extension passes

[Note that this entry was posted in 2002 and is by now quite old. No, I can't tell you if you're eligible for any sort of extension. Go check out your state's unemployment website.]

Finally and Thank God: the Bill that will extend unemployment benefits by 13 week passes [The Bill].

Not that my benefits were due to run out any day now and I've no job prospects in sight or anything.

I'm doing the Snoopy dance right now. And praying that I'm eligible and like that.

Yeah,

Why don't they just wait until we all sell our houses, and everything else that we own before they bother to tell us if we are actually eligible for the thirteen week extension!

Besides being completely stressed out and crying every now and then not knowing if or when we should sell our house.

From all the information I’ve managed to gather relating to this extension, I still don’t know if I am actually eligible. And if I am eligible, will I be getting my full benefits as they are now or what??

Who in the hell is in charge of this freaking mess??

My wife is stressed and freaking out about the possibility of losing our house, as well as I am. Additionally, we don’t know what the FREAK is going to happen with this extension crap. Nobody’s saying anything concrete and the unemployment office says not to even ask about it.

So, when do we put our house up FOR SALE?

Somebody needs to start talking about this NOW !!!

Is there any plans to extend unemployment benefits beyond the present 13 week extension? The unemployment situation is getting worse, not better. One of the positions I applied for had over 400 applicants for a one person job.

I have been unemployed since March 16th and since that time I have sent out 135 resumes. Not so much as a nibble. I'm frightened beyond belief. My benefits run out October 16th, if I'm not elegible for the extension my son and I will be homeless. Why isn't anyone discussing the criteria for the extension?

Greetings from California.

Like many others who have been unemployed for a bit now (Jan 2002 for me), my UI is nearing an end.

I've looked everywhere that I can think of and can't find anything one way or the other on whether the 107th Congress is going to authorize the extension of the TEUC 13 week extension.

What's up with that? Pretty soon it's gonna be collecting cans by the roadside or cleaning kennels for me!

Best of luck to all!

We need an extension right away! Over a million (myself included) can't find work. And our Govt is very silent. We need to e-mail these people out of their slumber. Good luck finding any work in this economy. But we are all trying any way.

I understand the extension is dead. Not going to happen. Can can anyone confirm this?

I heard on NPR yesterday that COngress was debating a 13 week extension after the current extension expires 12/28/02. Some members only wanted it to extend 5 weeks and the debate isn't final. My guess is that when Bush returns from overseas this will be resolved. Many times they wait until the very end to make these "give away money" decisions.

Since 4/1/2002 I've been unemployed. Have sent out 82 resumes and applications, participated in 4 interviews. Jobs have been paying very poorly and I need more time to get the right one. A 13 week extension would be perfect.
