Where has the summer gone?

It's already time for the Minnesota State Fair! Eek! Check out the Official Fair Website, the State Fair coverage @ startribune.com, and the Pioneer Press State Fair coverage. If you don't understand what the big deal is, you've never been to the MN State Fair (trust me, it's not like any other state fairs that I've heard of).

Nifty! A State Fair Guide for the Palm Pilot.

Yes! Finally! A new book by John Crowley! It's called Daemonomania and I must have it!

Sorry, but if you've read Crowley before you understand. His books are pure magic and always knock my socks off. They're amazing. I think I once read a blurb about his book Little, Big that said his writing is so good it ought to inspire cults (literally) and yeah, I could see that.

If you've never read any of Crowley's stuff before, seek out Little, Big which is one of my favorite books of all time. Of course, it's not to everyone's taste, but if you like it at all you'll probably love it.

The books that precede his new one are Aegypt and Love & Sleep and they're pretty amazing, too.

His standalone works The Deep, Engine Summer, and Beasts are really cool too and were collected in Three Novels which would probably be a fine introduction to Crowley, too.

Martha Soukup's fabulous article about Big Brother is a must read, whether you watch the show or not. It'll make you think differently about the houseguests, that's for sure. It made me cheer, it did. Because it says what I've been wanting to say, better than I could.
